description
This new medical education center Hospital Moinhos de Vento was inaugurated at the end of 2022. Located in Porto Alegre, Brazil, Moinhos de Vento School of Health Sciences covers 2,600 square meters and features advanced student facilities in a high-quality learning environment. Several classrooms, specialized labs, realistic simulation rooms and a simulated hospital employ cutting-edge educational technology.
The wayfinding design draws on the global concept already used throughout the hospital complex and its external units To simplify navigation and create a unique identity for the learning environment, this system takes a sober yet friendly approach to represent the dynamism of the space and establish a greater connection with students. The design´s guiding principle is exploration, incorporating panels and applied elements with direct painting on the walls and using bilingual text, pictograms, lines and arrows that run across doors and glass partitions to organize information in a unique way. The result is clear and intuitive, facilitating visitors’ movement through the environment.
With its diverse infrastructure, the school recognizes the positive impact that this wayfinding system brings to the broader academic community. It not only reinforces the institution’s reputation for quality, innovation and excellence in user experience, it also provides a welcoming and organized atmosphere reflecting the hospital’s overall mission.
A key point in this project is the environmental graphic design created for the “Educação Move Moinhos” Memorial which occupies a corridor at the school’s entrance. It exhibits historical information, objects and images that relate to the institution’s development since its founding. Here the graphic system becomes denser, with colors that fill volumes and arrows that organize the timeline in a way that involves visitors and reinforces connections with them.
